The Brooklyn Children's Museum is a general purpose museum in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York City, USA. Founded in 1899, it was the first museum in the United States and some believe, the world,[1] to cater specifically to children and is unique in its location, predominantly a residential area.[2] Housed in a multi-level underground gallery,[3] the museum underwent an expansion and renovation to double its space, re-opened on September 20, 2008, and became the first green museum in New York City.Wikipedia

I visited the museum with my 2 1/2 year old son today. I was a bit apprehensive in view of certain reviews in this page. What a surprise then, to have found that these reviews were totally wrong. The BCM is an extremely well organized, well kept place. Very clean and painstakingly planned to give the children a great experience. The staff is helpful and considerate. The idea of having a few different levels, each with distinct entertainment possibilities, is really good. My son enjoyed a lot the little bus next to the entrance of the tunnel. He loved to be able to sit at the drivers seat. I saw other children being mesmerized by the experience. In the back, the rows of seats also were a nice play opportunity, and the video that was playing, about Brooklyn and its diversity, truly enjoyable. We did not go into the greenhouse. The lower level has plenty of enjoyable moments. We loved the tiny fish tank and the low room below the stairs. My son was full of wonder at the possibilities of such a new space. The small music system close by was also very appreciated, as was the table with the crab tank. The science room has the python and other great animals. We reached when the little iguana was being fed, a great source of interest :) The benches with coloring pens and paper offered lots of fun. The toddler section, close to the entrance, contains many subsections, all with specific themes. We found very enjoyable the music structure, with a tunnel, overpass and slide, quite creative and safe. The kitchen section may need some overhaul, however, as it lacks objects of interest. The water section was really nice and the plastic protectors for clothes, truly necessary ;) The small shop has a good selection of toys, educational in nature. We did not visit the cafe, sadly. After three non stop hours of fun, my son started to get sleepy. Even in such a tired state, he protested our leaving the museum. The guard smiled and waved to him, saying that he sees such resistance every day. It is obvious why: the BCM is definitely a winner. Highly recommended!

I just got back from the museum and I was glad that I went....I was not glad that I got there late (5 min) as they are free from 10am-11am on the weekends and also 1st fridays from 5pm-8pm. I had to pay 22.50 for me and my two boys. ...‎

My 2.5 year old daughter loved the toddler room, especially the water table. She really enjoyed herself with the hands on exhibits, but in typical 2 year old fashion, she loved running up and down the long ramp. Parking wasn't bad when ...‎
